DEDICATIONS

Friend of mine forever, like roots into the earth,

Brings me this world virtues, fill me with self worth

Steadfast as a compass, through each of my life’s storms,

And inviting as a fireplace, where I can still grow warm

-M-

Gone away and back again, a voice so sugar sweet,

Contemplating all that might occur if we should ever meet

A doer smiler holder climber, yet room enough for two

Eyes that capture the depth of night when they gaze back at you

-J-

Like leaves upon the fallish breeze, she flitters to and fro,

And where she’ll rest her head at night, only random knows

Collector of the finest arts, the eye for what looks good,

But embossing every plaster wall, does not change you to wood.

-A-

Deceiver of irresistible force, the immovable object wins

Attractor of the married men, a chance to start again,

Self devoting every second , no matter what the cost,

But when the bill comes, I hope you can pay. Just see all that you’ve lost.

Denyer of the contribution, that any stone was cast,

From the moment I beheld you, I was sure that gaze would last,

For every kiss I gave you, you were waiting for the day,

That you could hold your truer love, so you pitched my soul away.

-K-

A ship passing close on a festive night, and just sails away,

But the smile was a golden one, I hoped that you might stay

So young naïve, confused and stressed, but no time for a pause,

Partying because you dislike your life, but that is the very cause.

-J/C-

Furnace maker, Men’s heart breaker, pure lover of life,

Is chasing you more thrilling than holding you as wife?

You build in me such courage, strength, enough to face each day.

But like a dream in waking morn, when I look you go away.

-D-

Full faith builder, hope shaper wielder, a devout prayer to Above

And belief in hope and finding that inside me still lie love

Pie baker maker of tomorrow, to watch me fly away

And though it broke your heart in two, your life still is in PA

-V-

A friend and more knocked on my door, not content to let life pass

And held me when I stood alone, and forced my hand to grasp

At hopes and dreams released it seems love found me after all

And in the dead of winter my heart answered loves “last call”
-T-

I’ve grown the home no more alone you emerged from every dream

And proved that your reality is worth far more it seems

Hazel eyes the light of skies the heavens pour forth from you.

and captivate me and bring me back to trust to love so true.

Dream sharing always caring self reliant mover shaker

Piercing gaze, I stand amazed, dramatic giver seldom taker.

Alyeska lover no one stands above her you still the waters of my soul.

and in that calm, the light shines on. I look forward to growing old.

Play Me A Melody

Play me a melody to the words I’ve written
Play something to laugh about to the tears that I’ve cried
Play me a foot stomping tune I would die for
A tune for the eulogy for the dreams I’ve let die

Play me a rhythm to match my heartbeat
weave the sounds of the birds in the morn
give me a song to put wings on my lyrics
to set them free from the rags I have worn

Oh please….
Before I go.

Give me some harmony to pass the time with
play something I might hear at the playground or park
Give me a song I will play on the radio
To help me forget the fatigue when I walk

Oh please…
Before I go.

I’m going too far to come back for you darling.
And I can’t be certain you’ll follow someday.
Memories fade and the words that I’ve written.

Will lose all their meaning if you refuse to play…
So play…. With all your heart please just play.

Play me a melody to the words I’ve written
Play something to laugh about to the tears that I’ve cried
Play me a foot stomping tune I would die for
A tune for the eulogy for the dreams I’ve let die

Play me a rhythm to match my hearbeat
weave the sounds of the birds in the morn
give me a song to put wings on my lyrics
to set them free from the rags I have worn

Oh please….
Before I go.

Desire’

On the crest of a north wind’s icy breath, we rushed through the wooden door.
We dared to warm our spirits in a place not visited before.
The warm air rushed to greet our forms, as we walked slowly and looked around,
A friendly melodic “Hello!” made us stop and turn towards the sound.

What greeted us were sea blue eyes and a smile stolen from the sky,
Teeth painted with the white from stars, and more starlight in her eyes.
Rosy cheeks au natural book-ended heart-shaped mouth,
She paused a moment as we hesitated and allowed us all to look about.

My eyes grew wide as reflexes honed attempting to absorb the image there,
The angelic form, the warm hello, long auburn flowing hair.
“Have you ever been here before?” her melodic voice chimed in.
“I’ll find you a quiet table where you four can drink and din.”

Mesmerized by the graceful gate, we followed to our destination,
She turned and warmly said “Thanks for coming here” with no pause or hesitation.
The four of us pondered desperately to arrive at some inspired quip.
Fates would not be kind to me this night as I blurted, “You’ve already earned your tip!”

She quickly served the four of us the drink to quench our thirst:
Savory malted lager brew, in speed we knew must be well rehearsed.
“Can I interest you in something else?” she smiled as she spoke.
The temptation to blurt something out was fierce as though magic had been invoked.

The conversation on this night lifted the burden from the day.
And soon our group was laughing loud from the workload that seemed like play.
Seconds became minutes and minutes grew to fun-filled hours too.
And thirsty malts and dialogue came in quantities none too few.

The time came for us to leave this place that warmed us to our souls,
And venture forth to return home in the darkness and the cold.
But we swore on our honor and our faith if ever again we would come this way.
To share a sip of heaven with an angel we know as Desire’.

Lighthouse

It’s not the light itself we find
That gives the lighthouse worth
For a candle shines forth too.

It’s dependability when all goes dim
The light that shines when storms arise
The same light that shines in you.

You’ve weathered all the storms, my friend
And stood tallest after all has past
Not showing signs of wear

And every passerby can say
In needing your light through every storm
How glad that you were there!

Flower

UNPICKED

Under sunshine on a carefree day, I walked along a grassy trail.
I had traversed this path while traveling about, and never had it failed.
The sun was warm and friendly as I whistled on my way,
Enjoying the sights and sounds and smells of a lovely sunny day.

In rounding a bend of the grassy route, my eyes beheld a sight,
The loveliest flower I’d ever seen, stood soaking up the light.
So tall and blue and sweet smelling too, I was amazed at what I’d found.
A miracle of beauty was growing up from the ground.

“I should pick this flower,” I decided. “It should be mine to hold.
I’ll take it home and water it, and keep it from night’s cold.
I’ll place it on my table where all my friends will see,
This miracle of nature will now belong to me.”

And in stepping towards the herbal gem, I saw how proud it stood.
This flower of the wilderness, it made me feel so good.
How could I keep it to myself, how could I dare possess
a blessing from the heavens? Am I the only traveler whose sight is to be blessed?

I paused a moment contemplating: Could I really truly deny
myself from the most gorgeous flower that had ever caught my eye?
The snow would soon be falling, and another fall would come and go.
Should I not cherish this nature’s treasure, the most precious I might know?

And yet, to pick this flower, I would change it’s very life.
Whether pulled out by it’s soft roots, or severed with a knife.
From the moment of possession, the flower would be gone,
To capture the life of loveliness, I could not deny would just be wrong.

And so I returned to walk my trail, and smiled at the thought.
And thanked God for the vision, one that can’t be bought.
For beneath the snow of winter will yield a new year’s flowery gem.
And with the warmth of a new spring will burst forth to greet me once again.

A Cross To Bear

gold cross
A Cross to Bear

Everyone must bear their cross, it’s a burden from above –
Some people bear a cross of shame, others a cross of love;
Some may bear a cross of work, while others a cross of play –
But everyone must bear their cross, and carry it every day.

So please know that this simple gift is given from the heart,
To remind you that a friend exists, even when we’re far apart.
If times are challenging to you, my friend, a golden cross is yours to wear,
So across the miles I can shoulder the weight of any cross that you might bear.

It’s just a simple necklace, a cross dangling from a golden chain.
But the thought is so rare it seems to me, I dare offer it again.
Fasten the clasp! Somehow, someway, if I am anywhere,
I’ll replace the cross that burdens you, with this golden cross to wear.

So let me take up yours and mine, and I’ll be on my way.
And pray a prayer to Him Above, for the friend you’ve made today.
For with two crosses I will tire, and may not go beyond tomorrow’s bend
So that when the burden is too much for me, I too shall find a friend.
